ORGANS SAVE LIVES
According to recent U.S. Government statistics, more than 100,000 people are on waiting lists for an organ. Only 21,200 transplants were performed in 2007. Many more could have been completed if organs would have been available. It does not have to be so. In a country with more than 300 million people, it does not seem like it would be hard to find enough matching donors to help save all of these lives. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

You can see the need for organ and tissue donations is huge. You and your loved ones will make a real difference with the special gifts you can offer. Donate your organs so others may live. Individuals can offer organs as a living donor or you can live on through others after your death.
Parents should keep other children’s needs in mind should they experience their own tragedy. Family members should keep the severe organ shortage in mind should they lose any extended family members. Friends should inform friends. It is also good to know all major religions in the United States support organ donation.
Your organs can live on and save the lives of many people plus improve the quality of life for many others. Just fill out a donor card and carry it with you. Also, tell your family about your desire to donate the precious gift of your organs. This will help avoid any possible confusion later during what is often a traumatic period.
If available, register your name on your state organ donor list as another possible connection. There is no official national donor list at this time.
